School Board member and Former Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Announces Run for Alaska State House
Ketchikan, AK –Leslie Becker, School Board Member and Former Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director, announces her run for Alaska State House, 36th Legislative District.
Alaska is facing a serious budget crisis and without the immediate structural changes necessary to achieve a sustainable budget, the economic viability of Alaska will be at risk. The mismanagement of Alaska’s resources has squandered billions in State savings and led to cuts in essential services, such as the Alaska Marine Highway system. It has also resulted in the virtual elimination of the PFD paid to Alaskans.
I am motivated to run as your State House District 36th Representative to end the tax disparity imposed upon our communities, to prevent service shifting from the State that will increase local taxes, to protect the PFD and to assure that a sustainable budget includes a “Shared Sacrifice” from all Alaskans.
The Legislature has failed Alaska and District 36 for many years. I promise a new approach and new energy to fight for Alaskans, and to get Alaska back on a healthy, sustainable budget path!
My husband, Dr. Steven Becker, and I moved to Ketchikan in October 2016. We have established our home here and are extremely committed to serving the communities in our district. Over the last three years, I have served locally as the Executive Director of the Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce and am now an elected member of the Ketchikan Gateway School Board.
Prior to coming to Ketchikan, my career spanned 35 years as a healthcare executive where I developed a broad depth of experience in strategic planning and revenue growth development. I worked with several large hospital corporations and managed multi-million dollar budgets and numerous departments and staff. What I bring to the House Seat for District 36 is a significant experience in business planning, budget management, and strong negotiation skills. I am a strong collaborative leader and am very willing to roll up my sleeves to work across the aisles to get the job done.
